With all of the great designers that I cover on my blog, I’m really surprised that I’ve never really covered Erik Spiekermann. He is just an incredible designer, whose work has always been so typographically sound and fundamentally perfect.
Enough good things could not be said about his contribution to design or his body of work. He’s an award winning typographer - whose beautiful typefaces include FF Meta, ITC Officina, FF Info and FF Govan. He helped found FontShop and MetaDesign. And today he’s still creating amazing work at his newly founded SpiekermannPartners.
The above is a great video from the Erik Spiekermann conference that ESAD held as part of their Personal Views series for 2007. It shows some of his hilarious, and very German, personality. And covers all of his work and ideas on design!
Thanks for posting this, Daniel. I didn’t know ESAD was publishing their video. Erik is an excellent speaker, if you can keep up. The great thing is that his style doesn’t change whether he’s talking to 100 people or one. This is the way he speaks, always.
Too bad their ages direct from his PowerBook display are stretched. Notice that?

Thanks for the heads up Stephen! It does stop right at about 34 mins left. So I’ll try to re-upload the video to Virb in the next day or two. Glad you enjoyed the post! There’s a lot more coming.
